Mrs. Shannon Schmiedel
Senior Band Director
Shannon Schmiedel is currently the 6th grade band director and woodwinds instructor at Wellwood Middle School in Fayetteville, NY - part of the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District. Prior to her appointment in Fayetteville-Manlius, she taught high school band for ten years in the Fabius-Pompey Central School District, middle school band in the Grand Island Central School District and high school and middle school band in the Wellsville Central School District. Mrs. Schmiedel’s bands have consistently received Gold and Gold with Distinction awards at NYSSMA Major Ensemble Festivals. Her high school bands from Fabius-Pompey and Wellsville traveled to major band competitions throughout the eastern half of the country including trips to Boston, Nashville and Washington D.C. Outside of school she is active as an adjudicator for both county and NYSSMA solo festivals throughout New York State. Past guest conducting appointments include elementary and junior high band festivals in Broome County, Allegany County, and Jefferson-Lewis County, as well as senior high jazz in Allegany County.
Mrs. Schmiedel holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Houghton College (Music Education - Flute) and a Master of Music Education Degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh (Music Education). She has participated in conducting master classes with H. Robert Reynolds, Robert Cameron, Donald McKinney and Adam Brennen and she studied conducting with Gary Stith. Mrs. Schmiedel lives in Manlius with her husband Jonathan and her three sons Colin (9), Logan (7) and Jordan (4). In her spare time she enjoys running, reading and baking.
